Storing Outdoor Furniture for the Winter

Posted by Lindsey on September, 30th.

It is getting close to that time of year again for those who enjoy all four seasons and have to begin making room for their Patio Furniture to rest in a safe space while the elements take over their properties. Storing patio and outdoor furniture properly is a big part of its longevity, especially if you are enjoying the timeless design and durable construction that accompanies any outdoor furniture creation. Here are a few tips to keep your furniture looking new and ready for spring!

  • Remove the cushions and umbrella, and store in a dry place. If you are using your garage for storage, store the cushions off the ground so they do not get wet.
  • Clean the furniture thoroughly with a rag or hose, depending on its composition. Dry completely.
  • Stack lightweight items atop the heavier pieces to save space.
  • Use furniture covers or tarps for any heavy pieces that are immovable. Be sure to tie them down, so they do not blow away in a storm, rendering their protective purpose useless.

To keep your outdoor furniture lasting a long time, store everything either in dry storage space or indoors. If you do use a tarp, make sure it’s tied down securely and leave a gap at the bottom to promote circulation. As the winter passes, remove the snow from any furniture that remains outside throughout the season. So it doesn’t leak through the covers or add damaging weight to the furniture. A good way to remember this is to clear any collected snow off the furniture each time you shovel your walk. Don’t worry, spring isn’t too far off!
